Tourists the world over know NYC for its iconic attractions: there's the bustling Times Square, majestic Empire State Building, and then... there's LaGuardia Airport. Sure, it gets the job done, but as anyone who's experienced flight delays will tell you, it can get grim fast. Last summer, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a $4 billion plan to fully revamp the airport, which would create more landing strips for planes to taxi and tear down the Cold War-era terminals in favor of one main hub.
Today, Cuomo joined Vice President Joe Biden to break ground on the project, with crews closing down some parking lots in advance of construction. Biden bound himself to Laguardia with his infamous 2014 statement in which he compared the rickety airport to a third world country.
LaGuardia Airport is expected to remain operational through the entirety of the construction, which is projected to complete in 2021. Is it too early to start the petition for airport-specific frozen custard flavors?
